Developments in Lagos

Quote

Due to high traffic congestion in lagos, the lagos state government has taken it serious to increase means of transport to the likes of waterway and the BLUE LINE RAIL.

The 'City Of Water' is the smallest State in Nigeria with over 20 million people living there.

Why is Lagos called the city of water?

The city's history is closely tied to the water. Lagos means “lakes” in Portuguese. What is now a megacity, was once a collection of settlements on the shores of – and islands in – the huge Lagos Lagoon, which is about 50 kilometres long. The city emerged where the lagoon meets the Atlantic Ocean.

The percentage of lagos covered by water is above 40%.

The land slopes gently from the interior to the sea. Water bodies and wetlands cover over 40% of the total land area of the State with lagoons and creeks consisting 22 % of its area.
