HISTORY OF LEKKI CONSERVATION CENTRE

Lekki Conservation Centre is owned by Lagos State Government and was founded in 1990 to serve as biodiversity conservation icon and environment education Centre. it is located at km 19, Lagos-Epe Express way by 2nd Toll Gate, Lekki, Lagos. The center covers an area of 78 hectares and is home to a plethora of wildlife, including monkeys, tortoises, antelopes and rare birds.

The Lekki conservation centre serve as a facility for research and education, mostly catering for groups of Tourists and school children. The conservation centre is open from 8.30am to 5pm daily. The gate fees for adult is1500naira and children is 500naira.

The Lekki conservation centre is one of the most recommended places to relax, have fun and for family picnic. With many fun thing, places and animals to play with, the centre features a lot of amazing sights which includes the following.

  1. The Longest Walkway Canopy in Africa which is the main attraction of the tourist destination is 401 meters and 22.5 meters high. It is being described as the longest in African and the second largest in the world.it is constructed by 13 Nigerians and supervised by two Canadians, the 401m Canopy walkway launched in 2015 is not a climb for the timid. The canopy walkway features six towers that rise over 22 feet each. They are connected by a series of suspended and swinging walkways that offer a unique (if somewhat harrowing) 360-degree view of this part of the world from high above the treetops. The treetop walk stretches about 1,315 feet long (more than three and half football fields), setting the record for the longest in Africa. The canopy walkway is a quite enthralling climb and is 100% safe and as a precaution, individuals climbing the canopy walkway don’t have to look down to avoid depth phobia.

The suspended walkway is optional for visitors and the walkway requires climbing stairs and it attracts additional 1500naira as entry fee.

  1. The Nature Park which shows the kinds of animal from Monkeys, to the beautiful peacock, snakes, crocodiles and other wildlife, all this are in the reservation spot
  • The Big Chess Game, which after an enthralling climb of the Canopy walkway, you can play Chess and other games. The chessboard is designed on a floor with 16 big pieces.
  1. The Treehouse sits at the top of the magnificent Dawa Dawa tree. If you want to get some solitude and privacy at the conservation centre, this is a great place to visit. Here, you will be in the company of the sweet harmony of the birds and the cool Lekki breeze.
  2. Family Park is another top attraction at the Lekki Conservation Centre. If u ever want to enjoy some time with family in a serene environment you could come here. The family park is equipped with everything that you need to have fun with your family. From swings to different recreational activities, barbecue stands to outdoor sheds for family to have utmost fun.
